Dance auditions for the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s opera production

The Budapest Festival Orchestra will hold auditions for male and female dancers interested in participating in its opera production of Monteverdi’s La favola d’Orfeo, planned for August-September-October 2019. Conductor and director: Iván Fischer. Choreography: Sigrid T’Hooft (Corpo Barocco Belgium).

Who we are looking for:

  • We are looking for 5 male and 6 female dancers between the ages of 19 and 35.
  • Completed professional dance education is a prerequisite, but we will also accept applications from students in their final year of studies.
  • Applicants are expected to be trained in classical dance styles or in modern dance, and should be open and creative.
  • Prior experience in musical theatre, folk dancing, character dance or early dance is considered an advantage.
  • The fundamental dance forms of the production will be based on dance techniques of the early 17th century (as we know from the descriptions produced by Italian choreographers Fabrizio Caroso and Cesare Negri), and dancers will be required to engage with the singers in several scenes.
  • Rehearsals will be conducted in English, so knowledge of the language is required.

Place and time of the auditions:

Budapest, between 4 and 10 March 2019

How to apply:

Send your CV, a video link and a dance bodyshot photo to the following address by 15 February 2019: krisztina.zold@bfz.hu

After a review of the materials submitted, selected applicants will be invited to participate in the auditions; applicants selected will be informed no later than 22 February 2019.

How to prepare for the auditions:

Come prepared to perform an improvisation of approx. 4 minutes in any style of dance (except break dance, hip-hop, street dance, disco or tap-dance); the routine must include alternating elements of improvisation and pantomime, set to a predetermined soundtrack. (Applicants invited to the auditions will receive the soundtrack by email.)
