European Orchestra Academy

“Music is a wonderful tool, with which we serve people’s cultural well-being in our community. This is the task of each musician! Instrumentalists should live a full life, play in orchestra, play chamber music, play as a soloist, and take part in educational work. Our academy will train young musicians for this broad, responsible activity. We want to develop cultural leaders, who understand that music is an important part of everybody’s life and who are willing to learn how to share its beauty with a very broad audience. We take music to the people all over Europe, our large community.” (Iván Fischer)

Orchestral experience

Academists regularly play in the Budapest Festival Orchestra both in Hungary and on international tours. This first hand experience of rehearsing and performing with one of the world’s most acclaimed ensembles with leading conductors ensure that the young musicians have the best possible experience from within the innovative-minded orchestra.

Chamber music focus

We’re placing a special focus on playing in chamber ensembles, but we don’t stop just there. Our academists perform numerous concerts throughout EU Member states in the unique residency weeks. This gives the academists the opportunity to travel together and connect with local communities.

Chamber orchestra without a conductor

A chamber orchestra of the academists is formed without a conductor, encouraging the young artists to take initiative and work together. Being their own leaders allows them to realise their vision and learn how to collaborate.

Sharing the music

Academists learn how to plan and execute outreach concerts and educational activities. They programme, lead, organise and moderate concerts during the residencies. Academists also learn to host and engage with a broad range of audiences verbally.

Masterclasses

Ademists are active participants of masterclasses led by acclaimed international artists.

European residencies

Community concerts and educational events have been amongst the most important activities of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. This rich experience is passed on to EOA academists, who learn all the necessary skills to realise community and educational programs in EU Member States and beyond.

The concerts take place in schools, hospitals, retirement homes, community centres and other locations. The concerts last approximately 45-60 minutes, they are moderated by one of the academists, who speaks the local language or in English.
