Awards granted by the 21st Century Company for the 13th time will be awarded in the Grand Hall of the Petőfi Museum of Literature in Budapest. The Award, which was established in 2001, was named after Attila József’s poem titled Hazám (My Country). The reason the Award is presented to seven people is that the poem comprises seven sonnets. Each year, the Curatorium of the Hazám Award recognises artists and scientists with outstanding achievements in Hungary’s public thinking and scientific, cultural as well as artistic life, and who have served Hungary through their lifelong work. Members of the 21st Century Company were asked to suggest personalities to receive the Award. Each year a Hungarian artist or scientist living outside the borders of Hungary is also selected. The chairman of the Curatorium of the Hazám Award is Tibor Vámos electric engineer, while the members include Attila Ágh economist, András Sándor Kocsis, manager of the Kossuth Publishing House, Tamás Révész university professor and chairman of the 21st Century Company, Ignác Romsics historian and Gyula Varga professor emeritus. As is traditional, members of the 21st Century Company wreathe the grave of Attila József in the Fiume street cemetery prior to the award ceremony.
