BFO returns from summer festival tour

On August 25th the Festival Orchestra under the baton of Music Director Iván Fischer opened the 26th edition of the Summer Music Festival in Merano, Italy. The programme featured works by Brahms and Dvorák, with the Danish violinist, Nikolaj Znaider as soloist.
The same programme was repeated two days later, on August 27th, in Switzerland, at the Festival of Gstaad, founded by Yehudi Menuhin. From Switzerland the orchestra flew to Spain, where on August 30th and 31st we gave two concerts at the Festival of San Sebastian. The first programme was identical with the one played in Merano and Gstaad, whereas the second one featured works by Liszt and Mahler, with the Croatian pianist, Dejan Lazic as soloist of Liszt's Piano Concerto No.1. The tour finished in London, at the famous BBC Promenade Concerts Festival, or as everyone calls it, at the Proms. This has been the BFO's seventh appearance at the world's largest classical music festival, founded 117 years ago (to which it has been immidiately reinvited for 2014). On September 2nd at 7 p.m. we gave a concert with works by Liszt and Mahler, followed at 10 p.m. (for another audience) by a so-called "prima vista" concert, where members of the audience could "order" the programme from a menu offering almost 300 different works. Both concerts were held in the Royal Albert Hall and were broadcasted live by the BBC 3 Radio.
