For the “See What You Hear!” film competition, the BFO encourages secondary school students between 12 and 19 years of age, and teams of students, to produce a film for a musical piece selected by the orchestra. The objective is to present the feelings and impressions that music evokes in young listeners. The product may be a short movie, a documentary, an animated film or anything else – there are no restrictions on genre or tools to use for the production.
Prizes are awarded each year at a special event, where a jury composed of prominent persons will evaluate the productions submitted. In previous years, the jury was chaired by such notable figures as Kornél Mundruczó, Szabolcs Hajdu, Károly Ujj-Mészáros, Ferenc Török, Kristóf Deák and Ildikó Enyedi.
As a grand prize, the winning team selected jointly by the jury and musicians of the orchestra will have the opportunity to accompany the orchestra on one of its international tours.
In recent years, entrants set to music works such as the suite version of Béla Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin or Shostakovich’s Hamlet suite, Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann’s pieces or Mozart’s Symphony No. 1 in E flat major.
