New Year Starts with Messiaen-Ravel-Brahms Programme

Exotic birds: this is the title of the concerts to be conducted by Music Director Iván Fischer on January 19th, 21st and 22nd in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall.
The title refers to the opening piece of the concerts by Olivier Messiaen. This will be the first time the BFO performs this exciting work which, given the important role of the piano in the orchestra, could be also called a piano concerto. The French opening piece will be followed by another French composition, Maurice Ravel's popular Piano Concerto in G Major. The soloist of both works is the brilliant Croatian pianist, Dejan Lazic. The second half of the evenings will feature Symphony No.2 in D Major by Johannes Brahms. The performances on January 19th (Thursday) and 21st (Saturday) start at 7.45 p.m., on January 22nd (Sunday) at 3.30 p.m.
