About the event

Immerse yourself in Dvořák’s lively Eighth Symphony in this evening of music and conversation, presented in the round.

A chance to experience a symphonic masterpiece as you’ve never heard it before. In typical Budapest Festival Orchestra fashion, this is a concert with a difference. This fresh format invites you to experience the inside of both the music and the orchestra in a casual and conversational presentation in the round.

Inspired by the orchestra's Midnight Music concert series in Budapest, you will sit on the floor on beanbags and cushions in what’s normally the stalls, with the musicians placed among the audience. The whole symphony is performed, but rather than going straight through from start to finish, conductor Iván Fischer stops and starts to allow time for explanations and questions.

The Eighth Symphony is among Antonín Dvořák’s most ambitious orchestral works. It’s full of melody, drama and the mingled lilt and fire of Czech folk rhythms. Whether or not you’ve heard it before, this is a remarkable opportunity to see for yourself how it and the orchestra that plays it, really work.
