Ziv Wainer Bobrowicz

European Orchestra Academy members bassoon

Born in Jerusalem, Ziv Wainer Bobrowicz (26) began playing the bassoon at the age of 13 studying at the “Hassadna” Conservatory. He later attended the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance High School until his mandatory Conscription to the IDF, where he was able to serve through the selective “outstanding musician program” which allowed him to take some classes at the Buchmann Mehta School of music within Tel Aviv University alongside of his military obligations.

Immediately upon his release, At the age of 21 Ziv enrolled at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste where he completed his undergraduate studies under Mathias Racz. He is now a student of Valeria Curti at the Hochschule der Künste Bern.

Throughout these years, Ziv has performed as part of prominent orchestras such as the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and the Israel Philharmonic, and he has participated in several CD productions, with ensembles such as Collegium Novum Zurich. Whilst doing so, Ziv has had the opportunity to learn from conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Pablo Heras Casado, Gianandrea Noseda, Lahav Shani and Ivan Fischer, and to perform in wonderful concert halls, such as such as the Bozar in Brussels, the Carnegie, Verizon, and Field Concert Halls in the USA, Sala São Paulo, the Tonhalle Zürich, the Muzikverien and many more. Currently, Ziv is playing with the Budapest Festival Orchestra as part of the European Orchestra Academy whilst also holding two trial positions; as 2nd bassoon with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, and principal with the Ulster Orchestra of Belfast.

Beyond this, Ziv is particularly interested in how music and its pursuit can be a tool for closer and more introspective human interactions. This has led Ziv to form various chamber music collaborations where there can be more careful and experimental exploration of works, and to the performance of recitals in forums such as the "Apple Hill center for chamber music" or the "Yehudi Menuhin forum" in Bern. It is also the motivation behind Ziv's aspiration to become a teacher, a goal that he began to realize when he taught a small bassoon studio at the "Hassadna'' conservatory, his first school back in Jerusalem.
