Gergely Csikota

Born in 1990 in Makó to musician parents, he started his studies at the Private Music School in Makó, then went on to study at the István Vántus Secondary School of Music in Szeged. In 2008, he was admitted to the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where he completed the Bachelor’s and Master’s courses under trumpet players Tamás Velenczei and Gábor Boldoczki.
In 2012, he entered the Master’s course at the University of Music Mozarteum Salzburg, where he prepared for future auditions under the supervision of trumpet player Prof. Hans Gansch. In 2012, he auditioned for the Orchestra Academy of the Munich Philharmonic, where he was mentored by principal trumpeter Guido Segers. During his university years, he played with several international youth symphonic orchestras in addition to the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. In 2013 and 2014, he was principal trumpeter of the Münchner Symphoniker, and became a regular supporting player of the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2014. Following another successful audition, he joined Concerto Budapest as supporting principal trumpeter in 2015. In the same year, he successfully auditioned for section leader of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
In 2019 he won the Artist of the Year Award fouded by the Hungarian Radio Music Groups. He became a supporting principal trumpeter of the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 2017. From 2020 he is a member of the ensembe as a trumpet section leader. From 2023 he is a first trumpet guest musician at the Berliner Philharmoniker as well.
