European Orchestra Academy members viola

Barbora Butvydaite is a violist currently based in Vienna. Born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1996, Barbora graduated from the National M. K. Ciurlionis School of Arts and won numerous prizes at national competitions before pursuing further studies at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg in Austria. There she had the privilege of studying with renowned violists Thomas Riebl and Veronika Hagen.

Barbora completed her Master's degree with distinction in 2021. During her studies, the violist received scholarships from the “Rudens Turku and Friends” Foundation in Munich and Musikakademie Liechtenstein. In 2021, she won the 3rd Prize in the Paul Hindemith Viola Competition in Salzburg. Barbora has participated in various orchestra summer festivals, including the A. Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Grafenegg Festival Campus.

In 2021 she won a two-year Academy position at the Tonkünstler Orchestra, which regularly performs Vienna Musikverein, Grafenegg and Festspielhaus St. Pölten. The violist has performed at major European concert halls like the Wiener Konzerthaus, Berliner Konzerthaus, Frankfurter Alte Oper, and Salzburg Festspielhaus. She has also toured extensively, performing in most of Europe, Israel, China, and Japan.

Through participation in master classes and various projects, Barbora received musical inspiration from musicians such as Garth Knox, Hartmuth Rohde, Ferenc Rados, Johannes Meissl and Enrico Onofri.
