TOP100: BFO's Mahler-CD on the list of The Times

The Budapest Festival Orchestra’s recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 was voted in among the top 100 albums of 2017 by The Times. According to the paper’s brief explanation, "Mahler’s epic symphony gets a deeply felt reading" on this recording.

As Fischer put it, “There is something divine in the wealth of this great masterpiece.” Contributors include Gerhild Romberger (alto), the Cantemus Children's Choir of Nyíregyháza and the Bavarian Radio Choir (Chor Des Bayerischen Rundfunks).

In a previous review, Stereophile wrote that the recording “renders the myriad beauties of this most wondrous of symphonies into an unforgettable experience”, and that it “deserves a place alongside the myriad hallowed interpretations past and present”. According to the British magazine Gramophone, which also included the album in its top 10 list, “I doubt whether there has ever been a more precisely focused, more utterly beautiful recording of any Mahler work... This Third is a must-have.”

The CD has been released by Channel Classics.
