During concerts in towns around the country, the Budapest Festival Orchestra has already “occupied” and flooded city locations of evening concerts with music a number of times. As part of the BFO Comes Knocking programme series, musicians will now teach young music students of the vocational school of arts in Pécs, while a group of musicians will spread throughout the city and play impromptu to passers-by here and there. This is not the first time either that the musicians of the Festival Orchestra and the students of the Schola Cantorum Budapestiensis will perform the Brundibár opera for children: Hans Krása’s opera has been a success in numerous schools in Budapest before. The heartrending story, which is about the evil organ grinder and the innocent children wanting to help their mother, takes place in the ghetto of Terezin. The opera’s composer together with the majority of its original performers lost their life in the gas chambers in Auschwitz, sometime in October in 1944. After Pécs, the children’s opera will be played in Kecskemét, Budapest and Győr. The evening orchestra concerts for adults both in Pécs and in Kecskemét evoke the Viennese Classics, as the programme includes pieces by Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart. Soloist Finghin Collins is one of the most sought-after pianists in Ireland, who, despite his young age, is regarded as an acknowledged expert of Mozart piano concertos. The conductor will be Gábor Takács-Nagy.
