In October 2012 the music world remembers the life of György Solti, born one hundred years ago. The Budapest Festival Orchestra has its own good reason for paying tribute to and remembering with some pride the legendary 20th century conductor, as in his final years György Solti worked increasingly closely with the Orchestra, and just before his death he agreed to be the BFO's guest conductor, making his last recording with them too, conducting pieces from Bartók, Kodály and Weiner. Iván Fischer is dedicating the three October concerts of the Festival Orchestra (National Concert Hall, 12 and 13 Oct., 7.45pm, 14 Oct., 3.30pm) in remembrance of his life, while the marvellous pianist Dénes Várjon, once a protégée of Solti, will play Dohnányi's Variations on a Nursery Tune on the three evenings.
