Musicians of the Festival Orchestra demonstrated their talents to an esteemed jury, proving that they hold their own even when performing a piece of their choice as soloists. This year’s winners, who will be the soloists of the Haydn-Mozart Plus series in the next season, are: Rossini: Concerto for Bassoon Andrea Bressan – bassoon   Weber: Clarinet Concerto in E flat major Roland Csalló – clarinet   Vanhal: Double Bass Concerto in D major Zsolt Fejérvári – double bass   Besides the three winners, the BFO will also put on the following productions:   Telemann: Concerto in F major Gyöngyvér Oláh – baroque violin Emese Gulyás – baroque violin Gabriella Nagy – baroque violin   Frank Martin: Ballade for Flute Anett Jóföldi – flute   Frigyes Hidas: Florida Concerto for Tenor and Bass Trombone Balázs Szakszon and Norbert Zakó – trombone   Music director Iván Fischer underlined that due to the extremely high standard the jury had decided to feature both the winners above and three other productions in the orchestra’s future music programme.   Jury members for the 2014 Sándor Végh Competition: Iván Fischer, conductor, BFO music director; György Konrád, violist, regular BFO guest musician; György Lakatos, bassoonist, key figure in the contemporary music scene; Lajos Lencsés, oboist, soloist of the Stuttgart Radio Orchestra; Tamás Major, violinist and BFO concertmaster, and András Vass, conductor of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra.
