The Budapest Festival Orchestra launched its concert series in abandoned synagogues two years ago. These concerts are part of the Community Week in the framework of which free concerts are performed in elderly homes, churches and child care institutions in the countryside of Hungary.
Through these Synagogue Concerts, the BFO is aiming to visit every abandoned synagogue in the country, but this will only be possible with your support. To this end, on
1st December 2016 at 7 p.m., we will be performing a festive fund-raising concert in the
Dohány Street Synagogue.
News of the Synagogue Concerts has travelled far and wide, and many ex-pats have returned to Hungary to visit their former communities. One of the most significant musicians in the world, six-time Grammy Award-winning pianist and conductor,
Daniel Barenboim, has joined the cause and will be the soloist for the December concert. He, Iván Fischer and members of the orchestra have all offered to donate their concert fees to support the Synagogue Concerts. The concert will feature works by Mahler, Prokofiev and Beethoven. Admission is free of charge, but you will be able to make donations towards the initiative.
