Tour in Europe and Budapest Concerts With All-Wagner Programme

The Festival Orchestra arrived back to Budapest from a concert tour covering seven cities in four countries.
The tour started in Innsbruck on March 1st. On March 2nd we were awaited in Bregenz, a day later in Bruxelles where our concert formed part of the Philharmony's European Gala series, marking Hungary's presidency of the European Union. The tour continued on March 4th in Brugge, on March 5th in Salle Pleyel in Paris. The last leg of the tour was Holland with two concerts, on March 6th in Utrecht, on March 8th in Eindhoven. All seven concerts were conducted by Music Director Iván Fischer. The all-Wagner programme featured Siegfried Idyll, the Overture and the Bacchanalia scene from Tannhäuser, the Meistersinger Overture, as well as three excerpts from Götterdämmerung: Dawn and Siegfried's Voyage on the Rhine, Siegfried's Funeral Music and the monumental closing scene of the opera, where the role of Brünnhilde was taken alternating by two great singers, Petra Lang and Eva Johansson. Following the tour the programme was repeated in Budapest in three concerts on March 11th, 12th and 13th in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. The Wagner programme has also been recorded for the Channel Classics label.
