About the event

Music is joy, a gift, and a magical experience – and that is the spirit at the heart of the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s Family Day. This year, the event will take place on Children’s Day, Sunday, May 31, at the Aquincum Museum and Archaeological Park.

Our free, full-day event offers something for the whole family, from musical programs and arts and crafts to dance and plenty of games. For younger children, there will be a Music Castle performance, a Cocoa Concert, and Choose Your Instrument sessions, while adults can enjoy chamber music concerts. The program features a rich variety of music, including enchanting early music, soul-soothing classics, cheerful brass, energizing folk music, and an unforgettable performance by our percussionists.

In addition to the wide range of entertainment on offer, visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets and season passes conveniently. We would especially like to draw attention to our Fricsay Family Season Pass, which allows pass holders to buy children’s tickets at a 50% discount.

Single tickets will also be available alongside season passes. One of the exciting new additions to our season is Iván Fischer’s light-hearted children’s opera based on The Gruffalo, the internationally beloved story by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, which will premiere in Hungary this October. Visitors will also be able to purchase tickets for our Cocoa Concerts and for orchestral performances featuring internationally renowned guest artists. Our colleagues on site will be pleased to help with any purchases.

Our event is supported by the Municipality of Budapest.
