About the event
Don Juan is immortal. The story of the “Seducer from Seville” set off on its journey to conquer the world some time in the 14th century. It was turned into a drama four centuries ago by Tirso de Molina and has since been adapted by dozens of notable authors from Molière to Pushkin, but it was as Don Giovanni that he became the irrepressible playboy we know today – thanks to the Mozart opera. The theme of the notorious womanizer has appeared in countless variations in the world of motion pictures (including some Hungarian versions), and opera films have reached cinema and television screens in their hundreds. Joseph Losey’s 1979 film stands out as it is not a recorded version of an opera performance. Instead, it is a visually stunning film in which Losey showcases his talents both as a film and a theatre director.
