About the event
Milos Forman’s film was a huge success in its day. Even without the eight Oscars. If artistic achievement were measured in awards alone, we’d be in trouble. A more accurate and significant indicator is the fact Amadeus has stood the test of time, and many people cherish the image of Mozart from the film, adapted from Peter Shaffer’s stage play, which is believed to be authentic. (The Pushkin drama, which explores the relationship between Mozart and Salieri, has been somewhat lost in the mists of time.) This is intriguing because Amadeus is, in essence, an exploration of Salieri’s drama, his obsession with Mozart. So, let’s not hold the filmmakers accountable for musicological accuracy – hopefully, artistic authenticity will suffice.
