BFO violinist and our irreplaceable librarian Tibor Gátay treated the BFO staff to this divine sweet some time ago. The secret recipe.
Our recollections will also include a discussion of The Miraculous Mandarin, but first, let’s see the recipe with lemons.
Ingredients:
- 1 large cup of high-fat sour cream (450 g)
- 1 carton of vegetable whipping cream (500 mL)
- zest of 2-3 lemons, grated
- 2 packs of ladyfingers
- juice of 2-3 lemons
- 12 tbsp of sugar (or xylitol)
Halve the quantities above to serve five.
Preparation:
- Whip the whipping cream until thick; add the sour cream, lemon juice, lemon zest and sugar.
- Lay the ladyfingers at the bottom of a large bowl; cover with a layer of cream, and then continue to build similar layers. Cover the top with a generous layer of cream. Decorate using lemon slices; you could also sprinkle grapefruit or orange syrup on top.
- You may want to sprinkle the ladyfingers with some limoncello, fruit brandy or cognac (but be mindful of any drivers!).
It’s best to prepare this the night before, to allow time for the ladyfingers to soak through and become softened by the cream.
