Christian Curnyn has emerged as one of the UK’s leading conductors specialising in the Baroque and Classical repertoire. He founded the Early Opera Company in 1994 and the last 22 years have seen notable performances throughout the UK, and award-winning recordings.

A regular at English National Opera, Christian’s opera credits also include acclaimed productions for Scottish Opera, Opera North, Garsington Opera and Royal Opera Covent Garden, as well as further afield with Komische Oper Berlin, Oper Frankfurt, Salzburg Landestheater, Oper Stuttgart, Halle Handel Festival, as well as Opera Australia, New York City Opera, and Chicago Opera Theater.

Christian regularly works with specialist baroque ensembles including Academy of Ancient Music, AKAMUS, English Concert, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, as well as with modern forces including Bournemouth Symphony, Hallé, Scottish Chamber, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony, Essen Philharmoniker, and the Tasmanian, West Australian and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras.

Recent/forthcoming highlights include a Blow/Purcell double-bill with the Early Opera Company (Amsterdam Concertgebouw debut), The Royal Opera Covent Garden (Solomon), Opera North (Giulio Cesare), Theatre Basel (Le nozze di Figaro), Komische Oper Berlin (Jephtha), and further new productions for both The Royal Opera and Garsington Opera, as well as performances with Concerto Köln and the OAE.
