THE WINNERS OF THIS YEAR’S SÁNDOR VÉGH COMPETITION ARE...

The duo of Erika Sebők on flute and Clément Noël on the English horn, the violin duo of Mária Gál-Tamási and Anikó Mózes, and István Kádár’s solo violin performance proved to be the best at the 2015 edition of the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s (BFO) Sándor Végh Competition.
Members of the BFO took part in the orchestra’s competition on 29, 30 and 31 October, before a prestigious jury at the orchestra’s rehearsal hall. The musicians were given a free choice of solo or chamber pieces with which to compete, and the grand prize was a soloist performance at one of the Festival Orchestra’s concerts during the 2016-17 season. This year’s jury consisted of conductor Iván Fischer, music director of the BFO; violinist Tamás Major, leader of the BFO; bassoonist György Lakatos, one of the key figures in contemporary music; András Vass, conductor of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra; and conductor Gergely Dubóczky.
