“The feeling of freedom has always been very important for me”

Quarantine Minutes with Tímea Iván

We launched our series, entitled “Quarantine Minutes,” so as not to lose touch with one another even during these difficult times. We will speak with our musicians to hear how they are dealing with their new circumstances in light of the coronavirus epidemic. How have their lives changed? Are they able to find anything positive in their situation? What music do they recommend for you? How have they transformed their ways of making music? We hope you enjoy hearing from violinist Tímea Iván.

What music would you recommend for our audiences while they are isolated at home? What do you listen to and what do you like to play to improve your mood?

These days, I tend to play whatever I am rehearsing for the upcoming Quarantine Soirée: some Schumann, Dvořák, Schubert, Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms... In terms of listening, I would recommend Don Giovanni and Queen, along with Matthias Kadar’s late-night concerts on Facebook – very enjoyable and relaxing!

What do you do in the time you otherwise would have spent with the orchestra? With whom do you make music at home, and how?

Right now, at home, we are playing a Mozart duet with Barna Juhász, but I’m also planning to involve my son, who plays the guitar very well – but we are still trying to coordinate schedules! I also have plans with my daughter during the spring holiday, but she is very busy at the moment, since all the three institutions (AKG, Milestone Institut, Hintalovon Child Rights Foundation) she is attending started digital education right away.

Have you learned anything new during the quarantine? Have you perhaps picked up any new habits?

My key new habit is baking sweets – something everyone in the family appreciates!

What do you miss the most right now?

I miss seeing my friends and members of my family who live further away; I miss being able to go wherever I want to. In other words, I miss freedom – the feeling of freedom has been important to me all my life, since there are always so many commitments...

What do you like about the quarantine?

There is time for everything.

Is there anything in your life for which you never had time before, but always wanted to do - and now you’ve been able to try it?

Nothing so far, but there will be time for these kinds of things (and I do have ideas)!

Tune in to our Quarantine soirées each night! Visit our website and Facebook page every evening from 7:45 p.m. CEST. If you would like to support our series, we would appreciate it very much.
