The merry sailors) Collaborating: CHRISTINE WOLFF (soprano) Baroque gestures: MARGIT LEGLER Conductor: REINHARD GÖBEL One of the main events of the 2011-2012 season at the Budapest Festival Orchestra was the Baroque music concert performed in October on historical instruments. Conductor of the concert held in the Italian Cultural Centre was Reinhard Göbel, who founded the Ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln in 1973 and was its concert-master and leader for 33 years. Göbel put last year's inaugural programme together from Bach compositions. With the exception of one masterpiece the entire programme consisted of works barely or never heard of before, and was warmly welcomed by the audience. Reinhard Göbel is once again the mind and the conductor behind the second evening of baroque music this season, and this time he has chosen a suite by Jean-Féry Rebel. "The Elements" is one of the most amazing works by the 17th century French violinist and composer. The other fantastic composer in the programme of this baroque evening is the uncrowned king of German composers Georg Philipp Telemann, who composed his dramatic cantata Ino aged 83; he also wrote one of his most beautiful works, Water Music in C-major, at an equally elderly age, which was based on experiences surrounding the sea in Hamburg. Renowned German soprano Christina Wolff (pictured) will be performing at the concert to be held in the Italian Cultural Centre, along with Margit Legler, who, similarly to the autumn concert, will again be demonstrating baroque gestures.
