We are immensely sad to inform you that our founding member, friend, and beloved colleague, the double bass player Géza Lajhó passed away on November 5, 2020.
Géza Lajhó was participant of the very first concert of the Budapest Festival Orchestra at the Liszt Academy in 1983. Since then, he remained a member of the orchestra’s double bass section without interruption. Having retired last year, he often returned to play with us as a guest. He last performed at the Synagogue concert in Pápa on September 30.
Géza was not entirely healthy in the last few years: he had some cardiac and pulmonary problems. He may have been infected with the Coronavirus around mid-October in his family circle. Having been hospitalized on October 27, he received outstanding care, but his life could not be saved.
Géza was an always cheerful, tirelessly enthusiastic musician who adored music, and a true friend and colleague. We will remember him forever.
We are paying tribute to him with an excerpt of his last concert.
